Amendment 11
Amendment 11 explains how to handle cases against a state. This is when Supreme Court (aka the U.S. national court system) handles cases between the states.
Amendment 12
Amendment 12 explains the electoral college. Amendment 12 includes the origin, system, and representation of states in the electoral college.
Amendment 13
Amendment 13 bans slavery. After this discrimination became the major problem.
Amedment 14
Amendment 14 states all rights given to states and government are given to the people. Amendment 14 removes the 3/5 slave population policy, and also gave benefits to legislators who sided with the Confederates of the USA.
Amendment 15
Amendment 15 states that racism is no criteria to vote. At the time when this amendment was made this meant only black and white males could vote, yet voting was still a challenge for the black males.
Amendment 16
Amendment 16 states that the United States can collect state income taxes. This amendment also says that despite the state population income taxes will be collected from the states.
Amendment 17
Amendment 17 changes the method of choosing state Senates. The new (and current way) is that Senate is chosen by the people of their state rather than the state legislators.
Amendment 18
Amendment 18 abolishes alcohol in the USA. This included the manufacturing, selling, and consumption of alcohol.
Amendment 19
Amendment 19 states gender is no criteria to vote. This amendment was the product of protesting from suffragists such as Susan B. Anthony and Francis Willard.
Amendment 20
Amendment 20 states when the terms of the President and Congress begin. Amendment 20 also handles the President position when the elected President has died before his term starts.
Amendment 21
Amendment 21 repeals the 18th Amendment, which abolished alcohol. This amendment was the product of all the bootleggers, speakeasies, smuggling, and crime increase due to the banning of alcohol.
Amendment 22
Amendment 22 states the maximum number of terms a President can serve is 2 terms (a total of 8 years). This came to be after President Franklin D. Roosevelt serrved in office for 12 years.
Amendment 23
Amendment 23 gives the District of Colombia 3 electoral votes. D.C. was given their own electoral votes since the city is not part of any particular state.
Amendment 24
Amendment 24 bans all taxes associated with voting. Since amendment 24 voting for any election is free.
Amendment 25
Amendment 25 creates more rules and regulations of the President. This amendment also sets rules for a President who is unable to perform his duties when in office.
Amendment 26
Amendment 26 creates a minimum age of 18 to vote. This amendment was added because at the time many young people (especially ones going of to war) were against the Vietnam War and would express their opnion. Seeing this, President Nixon decided to lower the age limit to vote.
Amendment 27
Amendment 27 states that laws that increase the pay for legislators will take place after the elections. This means legislators will receive higher wages after elections, not before.
